I-40 victims' memorial dedicated Monday (cutline)

Governor Brad Henry addresses a crowd of over 500 people at the I-40 Webbers Falls Memorial dedication March 26, 2003. The Governor was joined by Congressman Brad Carson, Oklahoma Department of Transportation Direction Gary Ridley and Webbers Falls Mayor Jewell Horne in dedicating a structure erected in honor of the victims of the I-40 barge tragedy. The bronze and granite memorial came to fruition through funds provided by both ODOT and the Town of Webbers Falls and is located on the bank of the Arkansas River.

Families remembered their loved ones during the hour-long ceremony and placed yellow roses upon the structure. The program also recognized the first responders and the survivors of the tragic event which occurred when a barge traveling upstream rammed the bridge's piers toppling part of the four-lane interstate.
