Detail Information

Segments of roadbed on the 1926 alignment beginning south of Miami in Ottawa County, originally paved in 1922. As originally paved, consists of two-inch thick rock asphalt over a 5 inch concrete base with concrete edges. Paved to a width of only 9 feet and locally referred to as the “sidewalk” highway. These are three, essentially unaltered, segments of the this stretch of Route 66, which was originally approximately 15 miles long and linked Miami and Afton. In places, the original paving has been obscured by gravel added to provide additional width. Western Paving Company, contractor
