The Bituminous Liquid Lab is responsible for:
- qualification, job control and quality monitoring evaluation of asphaltic materials
- maintaining and updating asphaltic material testing procedures and approved listings

Bituminous Mixture Lab
The Bituminous Mixture Lab is responsible for:
- evaluation and authorization of bituminous (asphalt) mix designs
- qualification and job control testing of bituminous mixtures
- qualification, job control and quality monitoring evaluation of related matters
- maintaining and updating related testing procedures and approved listings
Responsibilities include:
anti-strip additives (evaluation and approved listings)
asphalt aggregates (testing unique to asphalt specifications)
bituminous mix design laboratories (evaluation and approved listings)
bituminous mixtures (testing, design analysis and design authorization)
release agents for use with asphalt (evaluation and approved listings)

Chemical Lab
The Chemical Lab is responsible for:
- qualification, job control and quality monitoring evaluation of various materials
- maintaining and updating related testing procedures and approved listings
Materials this lab is responsible for include:
concrete admixtures
concrete curing agents
electrical conductors
epoxy
fabrics
fencing materials
glass beads
lime
markers and reflectors
metal drain pipe
reflective sheeting
sign panels
water
This lab also performs the chemical portion of certain testing for materials that are listed
on this page as the responsibility of other labs.

Geotechnical Lab
The Geotechnical Lab is responsible for:
- soil stabilization mix designs
- soil and component aggregate testing
- geotechnical, pedological and seepage investigations
- falling weight deflectometer testing
- qualification, job control and quality monitoring analysis of related matters
- maintaining and updating related testing procedures and approved listings
Responsibilities include:
aggregate base and similar Section 703 aggregates (evaluation and approved listings)

Independent Assurance Section
The Independent Assurance Section is responsible for:
- executing the Department's Independent Assurance Program
- maintaining and updating related testing procedures and approved listings
Responsibilities include:
split sampling
comparison testing
monitoring testing performed by certified technicians and qualified labs

The Materials Administrative Section is responsible for:
- managing and technically supporting the office of the Materials Division
- administering the Department's Quality and Independent Assurance Programs

- maintaining and updating related procedures and data files
