The Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Roadway Design Squad has had an office at Oklahoma State University since 1970. Over the years, approximately 200 students have been employed at the OSU/Roadway Design Squad.

Students develop roadway plans using engineering practices along with MicroStation. Each student is assigned a roadway project and is responsible for the design and information put on the plans. Additionally, students are responsible for calculating hydraulics, laying out horizontal and vertical alignments, calculating quantities, and preparing plans for Plan-in-Hand, Right-of Way Submission, and Final Submission.

Positions in this program are designed to lead to full-time employment with ODOT following graduation.


Position Requirements:

  • Provide an academic certification letter
  • Maintain classroom performance requirements established by OSU at its College of Engineering
  • Take 30 hours during the academic year within the Civil Engineering curriculum registrar.okstate.edu/images/DRS2014-2015/CEAT/en10.pdf
  • Thirty transferable hours (already completed) within the Civil Engineering curriculum
  • Employment is year round
  • Work approximately 20 hours per week (May opt to work up to 40 hours per week in the summer and during school breaks)
  • Provide a class schedule at the start of each semester and a transcript at the end of each semester
