Participating groups that register with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) compete for awards within their category. In order to recognize more groups, the city category was divided into six population groups: less than 1,000; 1,000 to 2,000; 2,000 to 5,000; 5,000 to 16,000; 16,000 to 100,000; and more than 100,000. Also, two groups received special recognition awards for their efforts. Winners are invited to attend the TRASH-OFF Awards Picnic in July where they will present them with their hubcap awards.
